SUMMARY:  The GrowHaus is a food equity nonprofit in Denver's Elyria­ Swansea neighborhood with the mission  of creating community driven, neighborhood­ based food systems by serving as a hub for urban  agriculture, education, and economic opportunity.  The Development Director’s role is to develop,  direct, and manage the strategy and implementation of all fundraising activities for the GrowHaus.  The position is responsible for generating the organization’s annual revenue goals through individual  donor engagement, foundation and corporate support, and strong public relations.  They will oversee  development related staff and high­ level volunteers, and work closely with the Executive Director,  who sees himself as a key part of the development team.  The Development Director is someone with  awesome follow ­up, is gracefully persistent, and works with a sense of urgency.  The ideal candidate  possess strong and clear writing skills to efficiently express our mission and has exceptional  relationship and management aptitude.  This is a unique opportunity to work at the center of a  unique, fun, and innovative organization with large growth potential.        

● Lead the fundraising/development efforts of The GrowHaus  

● Develop annual fundraising goals and objectives in conjunction with the Executive Director  that include time lines, procedures, and tasks to be accomplished in meeting future plans and  goals  

● Prepare and execute the fundraising budget on annual basis, to include projected income and  expenses  

● Supervise development related staff, including dedicated Communications Associate (to be  hired)  

● Supervise development interns, including communications interns, digital design interns,  grant assistance, etc. (It is up to you to determine what interns you need and their  responsibilities.  We get many applicants with various skillsets)  

● Lead The GrowHaus Development Committee  

● Oversee grants pipeline, including grants calendar, research, applications, and progress  reporting  

● Coordinate the cultivation of individual gifts and stewardship of key donors, with assistance of  the ED, through a systematic process of prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation,  acknowledgment, and stewardship  

● Oversee research of potential donors to The GrowHaus, including individuals, organizations and foundations  

● Work with staff to develop fundraising cultivation and/or stewardship strategies for events  

● Oversee development of marketing materials, with support from ED, communications, and  program staff  

● Ensure proper management of the fundraising database in Salesforce, including  confidentiality, accuracy, and timely entry of donor records.  

● Ensure timely and accurate response/acknowledgement of donor gifts, concerns and requests  

● Conduct GrowHaus tours and lead site visits with foundation program officers, individual  donors, and other prospects  

● Work with program staff to track evaluation/outcomes for use in grants and other fundraising  activities  

● Assist the Executive Director in creating and implementing a culture of fundraising  throughout the organization   


● Proven aptitude in the field of fundraising and development (work and/or education  experience)  

● Knowledge and experience in individual donor cultivation, grant research and writing,  corporate solicitations, and fundraising strategy development  

● Strong management ability, including ability to manage up  

● Highly coachable ­ can take feedback and run with it  

● Strong written, verbal, and public speaking skills  

● Highly­ organized and able to create and oversee organizational systems  

● Self­-driven and persistent with flexible and willing attitude    


● Bilingual in Spanish and English  

● Proven track record fundraising for budgets over $500,000  

● Knowledge of and passion for food systems, food access, and/or urban agriculture  

● Previous experience with use of SalesForce or equivalent CRM database  

● Digital design and/or Web experience, including Adobe Creative Suite, Website development,  social media, or other ability to create compelling visual and web identity  

● Experience managing fundraising campaigns
