Job Description:

Education Program Coordinator

Hours: Full ­time, 40 hours/week

Compensation: up to $15/hr based on experience.

SUMMARY: The GrowHaus is an urban agriculture nonprofit in Denver's Elyria-­Swansea neighborhood with the mission of creating community­ driven, neighborhood ­based food systems by serving as a hub for urban agriculture, education, and economic opportunity.  This is a position for a dedicated individual who will coordinate The GrowHaus’ educational programming, including Service Learning workshops, event planning, and volunteer oversight.  We are looking for a highly organized, responsible, and flexible individual who is excited to work with students of all ages to teach all aspects of The GrowHaus’ mission through our many educational programs. This is a unique opportunity to work at a community nonprofit helping to shape Denver’s local food system.    

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service Learning:
Program Promotion, Coordination, and Evaluation

  • Respond to service learning inquiries, manage online Service Learning Application, and schedule workshops
  • Promote the GrowHaus Service Learning program to educational institutions through school visits, phone conversations, and presentations
  • Track data around the service learning program, submit weekly and monthly metric reports,and evaluate program effectiveness on a regular basis
  • Create and track program budget

Workshop Planning and Facilitation

  • Plan age-appropriate curricula based on the GrowHaus service learning guidelines
  • Facilitate service learning workshops with a variety of age groups
  • Innovate and create new curricula for service learning workshops based on the need of groups and knowledge of facilitators

Partnerships

  • Maintain an active Denver Public Schools Partnership Agreement by updating information on education programs in the online Community Partnership System and organizing and submitting background checks for education program staff and interns
  • Maintain other school and partner organization partnerships

Supervision

  • Train and oversee 2-3 Service Learning Interns, providing guidance and feedback on workshop planning and facilitation

‘Seed 2 Seed’ summer youth program:
Program Coordination

  • Oversee curriculum updates and development
  • Coordinate program logistics, including field trip transportation, guest speakers, purchase of materials, program calendar, etc.
  • Update and implement evaluation tools to improve the program
  • Create and track program budget

Facilitation and Training

  • Lead educational activities and discussions during the 8 week program
  • Provide support for Seed 2 Seed students and additional training for Seed 2 Seed mentors and interns
  • Lead training sessions for Seed 2 Seed interns and mentors prior to program start date and throughout program
  • Lead weekly planning meetings before and during program

Supervision

  • Supervise Seed 2 Seed staff facilitators and Seed 2 Seed interns, including weekly check-ins and evaluations
  • Complete final program reports for grants

Volunteer Management:

  • Manage general volunteer inquiry email account and direct interested individuals to the appropriate staff members overseeing ongoing volunteer opportunities
  • Coordinate select volunteer days and oversee the implementation of volunteer projects (in coordination with other staff members)
  • Organize and execute special volunteer days

Growasis Educational Greenhouse:

  • Oversee and coordinate the maintenance and improvement of the Growasis educational greenhouse space, including providing for the care of plants and animals (chickens, rabbits, etc.), composting GrowHaus waste, stewarding a clean and organized classroom/event space, and cultivating new projects to enhance the learning possibilities of the space
  • Manage  volunteer opportunities to utilize volunteer effort in space maintenance and improvement

Other:

  • Attend events on behalf of The GrowHaus to promote programs
  • Assist in the planning of GrowHaus events

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS, EXPERIENCES, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Spanish fluency
  • Experience working with students of all ages
  • Experience with curriculum development
  • Extensive experience with Latino/Hispanic communities
  • Excellent organizational skills (oral and written) and the ability to excel at details, multi­tasking and working under pressure
  • Highly experienced in the use of computer programs such as MS Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Occasional need for weekend or evening availability
  • Highly responsible, able to handle a full workload
  • Flexible attitude and a strong team player
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with diverse professionals and community members
  • Self starter - ability to stay on top of projects
  • Gardening and maintenance skills: Ability to bend, lift and move heavy objects and not afraid to get dirty!

PREFERRED JOB SKILLS, EXPERIENCES, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in nonprofit operations
  • Knowledge of and passion for food systems, food access, and/or urban agriculture
  • Experience working in a dynamic startup culture
