COMMUNICATIONS INTERN 

Description:

The GrowHaus Communications Intern serves as the face of the organization and is our oldest internship role.  This person is tasked with ensuring that our supporters stay informed and engaged in our work. Through maintaining our online presence, presenting two weekly public tours, and representing the organization at public events, the Communications Intern is responsible for maintaining The GrowHaus brand. The ideal candidate will be friendly and outgoing, an excellent written and oral communicator, and will be savvy in social media.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform & track weekly tours on Friday and Saturday mornings for up to 30 people
  • Maintain an active presence on social media, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter with updates made at least three times a week
  • Respond to online inquiries directly or forward to the appropriate GrowHaus staff person
  • Respond to general phone call inquiries
  • Collaborate with the Development Director and/or Digital Design Intern to coordinate monthly email newsletters, including: content, article-writing, formatting, and release
  • Represent The GrowHaus at events for the general public such as festivals and information fairs and coordinate other volunteers for the events
  • Update the Communications Handbook on a regular basis
  • Meet weekly with the Development Director to go over tasks and progress

Schedule:

  • 4-8 month commitment
  • 15 hours/week, including Friday and Saturday mornings

Skills and Requirements:

  • Friendly and respectful, comfortable public speaking
  • Excellent writing ability
  • Consistent availability on Friday & Saturday mornings
  • Able to multitask and be productive in a busy work environment
  • Dependable and able to prioritize deadlines
  • Experience with using social media in a professional capacity
  • Trustworthy and creative
  • Interest in networking with people and organizations interested in social justice, the local food systems, and nonprofits
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred, but not required
