FACILITIES INTERN

Description:

The GrowHaus is housed in an historic 20,000 square-foot greenhouse that is in a dynamic state of renovation and upgrades. As a result, there are many duties that The GrowHaus Facilities intern is expected to assist with, including ongoing renovations to the building, as well as performing general maintenance and repair tasks. Depending on the intern’s experience, duties may include moving and organizing materials, light carpentry, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, and routine cleaning tasks. The facilities intern may also work with the Service Learning Coordinator to prepare and oversee volunteer activities during service learning workshops.

 Responsibilities:

  • Shadow and assist the facilities manager
  • Assist with light construction and renovation projects such as assembling raised beds, sealing concrete, hanging drywall, etc.
  • Perform errands to materials suppliers
  • Assist with selling or giving away unneeded materials
  • Assist with troubleshooting and repair of mechanical systems
  • Ensure that tools and materials are labeled, organized and accessible
  • Update standard operating procedures for building maintenance and ensure that GrowHaus staff and volunteers are keeping up with regular cleaning tasks
  • Collaborate with Service Learning Coordinator to plan and execute volunteer tasks for service learning groups

Schedule:

  • 4-8 month commitment
  • 10-15 hours/week

Skills and Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and effectively manage volunteer activities with groups of various ages and backgrounds
  • Willingness to perform physically demanding labor in adverse conditions
  • Basic knowledge and previous experience with plumbing, electrical, and/or carpentry is preferred
  • Valid drivers’ license and access a van or pickup for transporting materials is preferred
  • Ability to perform repetitive and manual tasks with a positive attitude and high accuracy
