GrowHaus Director Coby Gould and GrowHaus Board Member Maria Campus talk with other GES residents about a desirable location for a local food retailer.

On August 10th we met with Globeville and Elyria-Swansea (GES) residents and The City of Denver's Office of Economic Development. We discussed funding opportunities and possible action plans for projects for local food production, food-related education, and food-driven entrepreneurship.

The meeting was part of the federal assistance program called Local Foods, Local Places. The GES neighborhoods have been granted to develop and implement action plans that promote a local food system. Local Foods, Local Places is supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It provides technical assistance to communities in order to develop and implement action plans that promote a local food system.

The OED presented its Healthy Food Challenge which complements the federal efforts in addressing food accessibility. The Healthy Food Challenge is offering grants of up to $250,000 and loans to creative projects that address healthy food issues in GES. It also has a $1 million loan opportunity to support new food retail.
