Seed2Seed Nutrition Intern

Seed2Seed is The GrowHaus’ groundbreaking teen summer leadership program. Held three mornings a week for 8 weeks, Seed2Seed explores nutrition, food systems, urban agriculture, cross-cultural dialogue, entrepreneurship and community leadership through a mix of hands-on activities, group discussion, and investigative assignments. The participants in the program are split 50/50 between Elyria-Swansea and Globeville residents and residents from throughout the rest of Denver. The 2016 Seed2Seed Nutrition Intern will work with the GrowHaus Education Program Coordinator and the other Seed2Seed Facilitators to prepare a menu of healthy snacks and lunches and facilitate short nutrition lessons and discussions with program participants. Seed2Seed takes place Mondays from 9:00am-12:00pm and Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00am-2:00pm from the second week of June to the first week of August. Interns must be available Wednesday and Friday during program hours.


Snack/Meal Planning and Preparation

  • Use guidelines to create full program menu within defined food budget

  • Shop for ingredients in the GrowHaus market and other stores

  • Prepare healthy snacks and lunches for classes

  • Clean-up after meals with student assistance

Nutrition Education

  • Teach students basic cooking skills and delegate food preparation tasks during meal preparation

  • Facilitate discussion and activities about personal nutrition and cultural diets

Team Collaboration

  • Participate in training sessions for the month of May

  • Participate in weekly planning meetings throughout duration of program

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and facilitation of orientation and graduation events

  • Support program facilitators as needed

Schedule: mid May to mid August (dates to be determined); 15 hours per week, must be available Mondays from 9:00am-12:00pm and Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00am-2:00pm.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of nutrition and healthy cooking

  • Experience planning and preparing meals for large groups of people

  • Interest in education

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with youth, especially youth from disadvantaged communities

  • Applicants from diverse backgrounds encouraged

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English

Digital design skills a plus
