Hear From Angelo Gallo, Food Access Procurement Manager

Hi! My name is Angelo, and I am a Food Access Manager here at The GrowHaus. One year ago, I was a Food Access Associate Manager, and now I am stepping up and continuing to grow professionally and personally. Isn’t that amazing?! Being part of this fantastic organization makes me feel so proud and grateful. As an immigrant, I see this platform at The GrowHaus as an opportunity to show that we are here to work hard, we are here to make a change, and we are here to build better lives, not just for me but for my community.

In this journey at The GrowHaus, I have learned a lot about food, nutrition, Google Drive, and leadership. As a Procurement Manager, connecting with local farms has been a fulfilling experience. I'm building bridges between local food and my community, and I know my neighbors will have high-quality products on their tables. Even though I am not the best cook, I make sure my community receives healthy recipes so they can prepare nourishing meals for their families. One moment that has stayed with me was when a mom from our neighborhood told me how our food boxes improve her children’s nutrition. She feels grateful, so you see, it is more than just sourcing food; it is a connection that I am creating with my community, especially with the Latino community. Food is our number one love language.

I keep learning and growing by trying every day. I feel secure, heard, and seen at The GrowHaus, and that makes me so proud because I know that I have a great opportunity to be a leader for my community and help them to be leaders as well. I’m showing them that if I can do it, they can do it. Believing in yourself is not easy, but it’s possible.

Thank you to all the donors for supporting us so we can continue contributing to our community. Thank you to my team for their fantastic work. We are killing it.

I also want to say that I feel so proud of myself for writing this completely in English, something that Angelo from 5 years ago would have doubted.
