The GrowHaus believes that by empowering residents of the Globeville and Elyria/Swansea neighborhood, individuals and families will be able to build a healthy and thriving community. Our community outreach programs cultivate community leaders by giving residents the tools and space to make connections with each other and available resources.
The GrowHaus employs trusted members of the community, known as Promotoras, to serve as liaisons between the community and The GrowHaus. They listen intently to understand the community's needs and actively seek to create opportunities and services to meet those needs.
Our Promotoras also provide classes and home visits that teach residents about healthy eating and gardening practices.
Cosechando Salud (Harvesting Health) is a weekly no-cost grocery program and cooking class for residents of Elyria-Swansea and Globeville. Our program partner -- Denver Food Rescue -- donates fresh, healthy food salvaged from restaurants and markets outside our community and brings it to The GrowHaus weekly. Residents then come to The GrowHaus to collect this food at no-cost, participate in a cooking class, a zumba session, and a community meal. We also deliver healthy food at no-cost to individuals in the neighborhood who are unable to travel from their homes. The program redistributed over 45,000 pounds of food in 2017.
