The GrowHaus believes that by empowering residents of the Globeville and Elyria/Swansea neighborhood, individuals and families will be able to build a healthy and thriving community. Our community outreach programs cultivate community leaders by giving residents the tools and space to make connections with each other and available resources.
The GrowHaus employs trusted members of the community, known as Promotoras, to serve as liaisons between the community and The GrowHaus. They listen intently to understand the community's needs and actively seek to create opportunities and services to meet those needs.
Our Promotoras also provide classes and home visits that teach residents about healthy eating and gardening practices.
At the request of our community, The GrowHaus established Cosechando Salud, a weekly free food pantry and cooking class program. Volunteer nutritionists lead a bilingual cooking class, teaching attendees about the importance of healthy eating and methods to prepare foods. After the class, students are invited to fill a box with produce to take home. This produce is collected from the unsold farmers market items and would otherwise go to waste.
